Summary: As of January 2025, I have one year of experience with iMac 2024/Apple M3 and the Adobe Creative Cloud programs InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, and Dreamweaver; twenty-nine years experience with Macintosh systems and design software, 2024 and earlier; six years with PC systems and software; thirty-one years of applied pre-press experience; nine years of corporate advertising and product development; twelve years of website design and development; three years of management experience.

Meadowood Baptist Church: Graphic Designer. Being the only employed graphic designer, I serve the creative needs of six ministers and their departments, their secretaries, and the members of a large congregation. Aside from assisting in everyday office operations and public relations, my duties include video editing and archiving the pastor’s weekly message, audio and video file conversions, the layout and publishing of the weekly worship program, making announcement slides, posters, event displays, and banners. Other creative projects have included painting murals, set construction, and foam sculptures. Self-taught skills include responsive web design, large format printing on an HP Z6200, and operating a PC computer with Adobe and Microsoft programs on a PC based network. I prioritize a fluctuating work load to meet deadlines. Flexibility, multitasking, and speed are necessary. Since churches operate on a limited budget, I’m in the habit of reviewing available resources, researching ways to keep a project in house, and maximizing the end result.

Hobby Lobby Corporate Offices: Assistant Art Director. Coordinated nine artists, two support staff, and a photographer. Designed original art for all corporate and store level advertising needs, including product packaging, product design and development, and graphics for the company web site. Primary tools were Macintosh systems and software. My duties included setting and maintaining guidelines for artist operations and pre-press file protocols. Established an effective project tracking system inspired by my employment at Hebco, Inc. Also directed or handled projects from a number of buyers and eight sister companies: Mardel, Crafts Etc, Greco Framing, Worldwood, Hemispheres, Values By Design, Bearing Fruit Communications, and Bearing Fruit Entertainment. As a team leader, I assisted my supervisor on special projects, collaborated with coworkers, and moderated brainstorming sessions.

HEBCO, Inc.: Senior Illustrator for the HAZ-MAT and Digitizing Departments. Primary tools were Macintosh systems and software. Coordinated eight illustrators and administered the drawing aptitude test for artist applicants. My duties included converting photographs to detailed line drawings and redrawing illustrations such as charts, schematics, graphs, and wire diagrams. Scanned and touched up existing flight manual illustrations. Speed, accuracy, and teamwork were necessary.

Wordtown Electronic Publishing and Design: Graphic Designer. Created digital camera ready art and pre-press files for packaging and promotional materials. Received training on Macintosh systems and software. File conversions needed by clients provided experience with PC computers and products. Other duties included operating a laser developer, dark room operations, and maintenance of the developer equipment. Wordtown was a business venture under a government contract company.

Spirit Publishing Company: Illustrator. Illustrated book covers. Other duties included manual pre-press operations, paste up and layout, creating stationery and promotional materials for customers, PMT camera and dark room operations, equipment maintenance, and the touch up of negatives for published works.

Freelance Commercial Art: Commercial Artist. In addition to working part time and going to college, I began building a reputation by illustrating event posters for various clients, how-to posters for a local hospital, and set construction for a local church. Developed skills in mixed media illustrations, hand lettering, sign painting, mechanical drawing, and airbrushing.

And Graphics Too: Apprentice as a commercial artist under the guidance of a freelance commercial artist. I created original art for calendars, stationery, and promotional materials for local schools and businesses. Other duties included the paste up and layout of advertisements, color separation mechanicals, ink drawings, and color renderings for product development.
